Coming up:  Article in Psychoneuroendocrinology

The article "The physiological response to the Trier Social Stress Test relates to subjective measures of stress during but not before or after the test" by J. Hellhammer & M. Schubert has just been accepted by the peer-reviewed journal Psychoneuroendocrinology.

The authors describe a method they have developed to detect an association between perceived stress and physiological stress response within a stress task (TSST). This avoids the well-known covariance problem and therefore will add valuable information in clinical trials and psychotropic drug development. daacro studies apply this method since several years routinely.

SPIEGEL Cover Story – Nation of the Exhausted

Sick and tired (because) of stress? The cover story recently published in SPIEGEL, a major German weekly magazine, indicates a major role of stress in the development of mental disorders. The article impressively points out stress as an important risk factor:

„In many countries, mental disorders spread epidemically. The World Health Organization (WHO) stated stress to be "one of the major threats of the 21st century".”

The successful application of Neuropattern™, a new method for stress diagnosis developed by Dirk Hellhammer in Trier, is vividly illustrated presenting a case example. This psychobiological diagnostic system serves as an additional source of information for physicians and represents an important step towards personalized stress medicine.

SPIEGEL Dossier – The Ego Under Stress

Stress – Burnout – Depression:  The issue 01/2011 of SPIEGEL WISSEN, a dossier of a major German magazine, describes consequences of permanent stress. Various research emphasizing underlying mechanisms of stress is presented, including research conducted in Trier.
“Humans cannot live without stress – but the biological stress system is not designed for today’s world which causes imbalance. Scientists reveal how constantly being on the alert affects us.”
